Don't Let Acne Control You: Control Your Acne
Posted on 08/22/2011 on behalf of Dr. Kenrick Spence, M.D., F.A.C.S.
Acne can produce troubling social stigma at all stages of life to the point that acne patients may become withdrawn or afraid of social interactions. Teenage girls and women can apply makeup to cover most concerns, but in many cases acne cannot be covered up effectively or the makeup can cause more acne by clogging pores and adding oil to the face. Teenage boys and men do not typically use makeup to cover up acne, though they suffer equally with the condition. During the teenage years, acne can be very troubling to teens, to whom appearance is very important.
Acne can cause permanent changes to the skin, including:
- Pigment changes (dark blemishes)
- Permanent scarring
- Unwanted changes in skin texture
After treating hundreds of acne patients successfully, Hillcrest Dermatology & Plastic Surgery, a medical day spa in Orlando, has developed a successful treatment regimen for treating acute and chronic acne changes. We do not use ACCUTANE®. Our uniquely successful acne protocols come from a deep understanding of the key causes of acne: oily skin, bacteria, and inflammation.
Through controlling each of these key elements, we have achieved an extremely high success rate in treating our acne patients. By taking the time to educate our patients, we are able to dispel many of the myths surrounding the causes of acne, while helping them gain control of their appearance. To treat patients at our Orlando med spa, we combine the following approaches:
- VISIA™ Complexion Analysis for computerized skin analysis
- Custom-blended topical skin care products
- Specialized anti-acne peels
- Natural anti-inflammatories for the skin
- Special techniques to increase the absorption of anti-acne products
For patients already scarred by acne, we offer the most up-to-date resurfacing technology in the form of:
- Fractional Erbium laser resurfacing
- Non-ablative laser resurfacing
- Intense pulse light (IPL)
- Photodynamic therapy (PDT)
These are used along with the tried and proven techniques of dermabrasion and medium depth chemical peels.
