Body Contouring (Plastic Surgery)

The scar will depend on the extent of the tummy tuck. Full tummy tucks have a scar that lies beneath the bikini line from hipbone to hipbone. Planning is key, we ask our patients to fit their garments, showing us where they would prefer their scars positioned.

Child bearing after abdominoplasty would negate the effects of the procedure. There are other methods of contouring, such as liposuction, which work well for these patients.

This is a short scar tummy tuck, with a small incision above the pubic region. Excess skin is removed, muscles are tightened and liposuction is often performed.

The scars from a thigh lift are hidden in the groin crease and in the bikini line.

A thigh lift removes only excess skin and produces a youthful contour to the thighs and legs. Though it may improve upon the appearance of cellulite, it will not get rid of it.

A body lift is a combination of an abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) with a thigh lift, breast lift and/or arm lift. This procedure is usually performed on patients who have had massive weight loss. For example, patients who have had a gastric bypass or for patients with areas of sag around the abdomen and thighs.

No, with liposuction the fat cells are permanently removed. However, to preserve the effects of the liposuction, one must maintain a healthy lifestyle.

The scars from liposuction are quite small, usually much less than 1 cm. depending on the size of the instruments used. These incisions are usually hidden in a body crease or in areas covered by undergarments.

Liposuction works best as a body contouring procedure. If a patient plans on losing weight, this should occur prior to the procedure for maximum benefit. Many patients use liposuction as a jump-start to a more active and healthier lifestyle. In our practice, staged liposuction, with various body contouring procedures, has proven to be very helpful to weight loss patients.

There is no greater tendency for other parts of your body to gain weight after liposuction.
