At Hillcrest Plastic Surgery, laser therapies are among our most renowned facial rejuvenation treatments for men and women seeking exceptional laser skin care in Orlando. Dr. Kenrick Spence and Dr. Fernando Ovalle use these therapies for concerns ranging from acne to aging to customize a treatment protocol to meet each individual patient’s needs.
Laser skin resurfacing is an excellent treatment for patients looking to improve the appearance of their skin. Versatile and applicable to patients experiencing several skin conditions, laser skin resurfacing can address skin concerns on the outermost layer of the skin as well as several layers deep.
Depending on your skin condition and type, Dr. Spence and Dr. Ovalle may recommend one or more of our laser treatments. For example, sun damage typically responds well to Intense Pulsed Light (IPL), also known as photo rejuvenation. For patients interested in improving acne scars, skin laxity, or deep wrinkles, our laser skin resurfacing treatments can be the most effective.
We offer two types of laser skin resurfacing treatments for the face: Ablative and non-ablative laser therapy.
Ablative Laser Therapy
Ablative laser therapy involves the use of laser technology that works to remove the outermost layers of the skin, eliminating the appearance of signs of aging such as fine lines and deep wrinkles, as well as hyperpigmentation and scarring. Ablative lasers vaporize tissue and can tighten loose skin. When Dr. Spence or Dr. Fernando Ovalle perform this procedure, we use laser light to deliver energy deep into the skin, resulting in a smooth and revitalized skin tone. It can be used safely on all skin types and a variety of areas of the body. While ablative laser therapy requires more downtime compared to non-ablative laser therapy, they often produce the most noticeable, dramatic results in less time.
What Conditions Can Ablative Laser Therapy Treat?
Ablative laser therapy can treat the following conditions:
- Deep wrinkles
- Fine lines
- Crow’s feet
- Smile lines
- Skin laxity
- Deep acne scars
- Hyperpigmentation
At Hillcrest Plastic Surgery, we use this rejuvenating treatment to:
- Minimize sun damage
- Smooth out deep lines and wrinkles on your face, neck, chest, and hands
- Correct skin imperfections such as age spots
How Long Does Recovery From Ablative Laser Therapy Take?
Most patients enjoy the beautiful results they desire after only one to two treatments. About seven days are usually required for complete recovery.
Non-Ablative Laser Therapy
Genes, aging, and conditions such as acne can result in a variety of skin imperfections. Non-ablative fractional laser skin resurfacing in Orlando has become a popular way for men and women to rejuvenate their skin with increased comfort and long-lasting rejuvenation results. This procedure uses laser light to renew the skin from within, protecting the surface layers of the skin while stimulating new collagen growth below. It can be used safely on all skin types and various areas of the body.
Different from ablative laser therapy, non-ablative laser therapy uses laser heat technology to heat up skin cells in deeper dermal layersthan ablative laser therapy, non-ablative laser therapy uses laser heat technology to heat up skin cells in deeper dermal laters, prompting them to produce new collagen. The production of this new collagen will result in a new layer of fresh skin, reducing the appearance of scars and fine lines. Requiring less downtime than an ablative laser therapy treatment, this treatment is recommended for patients looking to even out their overall skin tone and texture.
What Conditions Can Non-Ablative Laser Therapy Treat?
Non-ablative laser therapy can treat the following:
- Acne scars
- Fine lines
- Wrinkles
- Melasma
- Uneven skin tone and texture
With fractional laser resurfacing, our patients receive the benefits of traditional laser resurfacing but with less risk of pigment changes in the skin or prolonged redness. At Hillcrest Plastic Surgery, we use this rejuvenating treatment to:
- Improve your skin tone
- Enhance your skin texture
- Minimize lines and wrinkles
- Tighten the skin
- Make acne or surgical scars almost invisible
- Treat stretch marks
How Long Does Recovery From Non-Ablative Laser Therapy Take?
Most patients experience only a very slight sensation similar to a sunburn, with mild swelling. These symptoms typically last two to three days. Usually, our patients are ready to resume their normal activities the day after their treatment.
Depending on your concerns, several treatments may be needed for optimal results. We typically perform these treatments about a month apart.
Meet Dr. Spence
With extensive knowledge and skills, Dr. Kenrick Spence specializes in achieving a beautiful, healthy look you’ll love!
Your Treatment
Before your laser skin resurfacing treatment, we’ll meet with you personally and explain the procedure in detail. You’ll also receive specific instructions to follow after your treatment. We provide this consultation to make sure we understand your goals and can recommend a treatment that makes sense for you. Before your skin resurfacing treatment, you will need to:
- Avoid sun exposure and tanning.
- Discontinue any use of Retin-A.
- Halt any medications that cause sun sensitivity or increase bleeding.
Depending on the size of the treatment area, the procedure takes only about 30 minutes. A topical anesthetic may be applied prior to the treatment to maximize comfort. For patients with a low pain threshold, we offer the option of intravenous sedation from our board-certified anesthesiologist. This allows our patients to have a pain-free experience.
Laser skin resurfacing can be combined with other skin rejuvenation treatments, including ablative laser therapy, IPL treatments, and BOTOX® Cosmetic. Using a combination of fractional and ablative lasers helps to maximize treatment outcomes while minimizing downtime.
