Preparing for Your Procedure

Prior to your lip enhancement, Dr. Spence and Dr. Ovalle evaluate the facial aesthetics involved in your procedure, and discuss with you the results that you want to achieve. They use that information to design a detailed treatment plan tailored to your areas of concern.

Dr. Spence and Dr. Ovalle will prescribe a unique skin care regimen for you to follow prior to your procedure. They will also provide you with detailed instructions for your recovery.

Lip Augmentation Procedure

Based on your specific concerns, your lip augmentation procedure may include:

  • Fat grafting
  • Injectable fillers
  • Chemical Peels and Lasers

Fat Grafting

The most natural filler used in cosmetic surgery, fat transfer can achieve two goals: a slimmer, smoother silhouette and enhanced lips. Dr. Spence and Dr. Ovalle first harvest the fat through liposuction from areas with excess fat deposits, such as the stomach or thighs, to sculpt your body more beautifully. They then process the harvested fat before using it to augment your lips.

Dr. Spence and Dr. Ovalle evaluate your lips and surrounding area carefully in order to develop the ideal treatment plan for creating a beautifully shaped mouth. For example, to highlight your lip border, a small strip of fat and skin may be used, which is known as a dermal fat graft.

Fat grafting can be performed on an outpatient basis, often requiring only local anesthesia. Two to three sessions may be needed to achieve the results desired. Because fat grafts utilize your own tissue, this option avoids the potential risk involved in other implant methods.

Injectable Fillers

Dr. Spence and Dr. Ovalle also may use facial fillers. Fillers may be used to correct the lines above the lips and to fill out the lip borders. Requiring less recovery time than fat transfer, fillers – depending on the option selected – last approximately 6 to 9 months.

Chemical Peels and Lasers

To smooth away wrinkles on the upper lip, Dr. Spence and Dr. Ovalle also use chemical peels and lasers. These methods, used either separately or combined, often can provide a more complete rejuvenation.

Recovery & Results

Depending on the treatments used, downtime varies. For example, after fat grafting, some patients experience mild swelling which soon subsides. Dr. Spence and Dr. Ovalle will provide you with specific instructions to help you heal quickly and comfortably.

After lip augmentation, Dr. Spence and Dr. Ovalle's patients typically experience renewed self-confidence and love their beautiful, voluptuous lips!
