Who Is A Candidate for Brow Lift Surgery?

You may think you need upper eyelid surgery when you would actually benefit more from a brow lift. A brow lift can help rejuvenate your eye area if:

  • The passage of time has caused your eyebrows to droop
  • You have deep frown lines across your forehead, with vertical lines between your eyes
  • Your eyes appear "crowded" because your eyebrows have lost their arch
  • Your eyebrows are asymmetrical

Preparing For Your Procedure

Dr. Spence will evaluate your facial aesthetics, such as your eyebrow symmetry. In addition, he will discuss whether complementary procedures, such as a facelift, might achieve a more comprehensive rejuvenation.

You'll receive instructions for your before-surgery care, as well as information about how to speed up your recovery and healing process. Learn more by reading our Brow Lift Surgery FAQs.

Brow Lift Procedure

Based on Dr. Spence's in-depth analysis of your facial frame, features, and skin, he will perform one of 3 different types of brow lifts:

  • a temporal brow lift, which raises the lateral 2/3 of the eyebrow
  • an endoscopic brow lift (forehead lift), which is suited to patients who desire only a subtle elevation of their eyebrows
  • coronal brow lift, used for patients with a short forehead, a significant number of forehead lines and wrinkles, and sun damage

During a brow lift, Dr. Spence releases selected muscles across your forehead and between your eyes. This step softens deep lines and helps to minimize signs of aging. Depending on which approach he uses, excess skin may be removed for a smoother, elevated brow. If you and he have agreed upon a complementary procedure, such as eyelid surgery, he also will perform it during your brow lift.

What Is A Temporal Brow Lift?

A temporal brow lift is a procedure where a small incision is made inside the hairline of the temple to lift the tail of the brow. This is a favorite of Dr. Spence as it leaves a small scar with little to no risk of hair loss, restoring a useful shape to the brow.

Can A Brow Lift Be Done Under Local Anesthesia?

Yes, at Hillcrest Plastic Surgery, the majority of brow lifts are done under local anesthesia. This can also be done in conjunction with upper and lower eyelid surgery.

Recovery & Results

Most patients resume their normal activities in 7 to 14 days, and Dr. Spence removes the sutures during this time period as well. Some patients experience mild bruising around their eyes or swelling, which typically diminishes within the first week.

After their brow lift, Dr. Spence's patients frequently tell him that they both look and feel as if he has turned back the clock to restore their youth! Their eyes become more visible, enhancing the beauty and radiance of their faces.
