Who is a Candidate for Hand Rejuvenation?

You may benefit from hand rejuvenation if:

  • You want to correct damage caused by the environment and aging such as sun spots and bulging veins.
  • You want to restore lost volume that results in that "sunken" look around the hand bones.
  • You want to tighten, tone, and smooth the skin on your hands.

Preparing for Your Procedure

Dr. Spence and Dr. Ovalle conduct a detailed evaluation of the aesthetics involved in your procedure, including the skin on your hands, your bone structure, and a discussion of the results that you want to achieve. He uses that information to design a detailed treatment plan tailored to your areas of concern.

Our team will tailor a unique skin care regimen for you to follow before and after your procedure as well.

Hand Rejuvenation Procedure

Based on your specific concerns, your hand rejuvenation procedure may include injectable fillers, fat grafting, and laser rejuvenation.

Injectable Fillers

Injectable fillers such as RADIESSE® can add volume to bony hands, reduce the prominence of protruding veins and tendons, and help with wrinkled skin. The treatment usually takes less than 20 minutes, with no anesthesia needed. After injecting RADIESSE into your hands, it is gently massaged into the areas that could benefit from added volume.

Laser and Light Treatments

Sun damage can cause discolored skin, which can be effectively treated with laser and light therapy. Depending on your specific areas of concern, we may recommend photorejuvenation, ablative laser skin resurfacing, or fractional laser skin resurfacing. These treatments can transform rough, dull skin into smooth, healthy skin that makes your hands look years younger!

Fat Grafting

Fat transfer, also known as fat grafting, can achieve two goals: a slimmer, smoother silhouette and more youthful hands. Dr. Spence and Dr. Ovalle first harvests the fat through liposuction from areas with excess fat deposits, such as the stomach or thighs, to contour your body for a firmer, sculpted look. He then processes the harvested fat before using it to enhance your hands.

We evaluate your hands carefully to develop the ideal treatment plan for creating beautifully rejuvenated hands. For example, he may use fat grafting to add volume to sunken, bony hands. Fat grafting can be performed on an outpatient basis, often requiring only local anesthesia. Two to three sessions may be needed to achieve the results desired. Because fat grafts utilize your own tissue, this option avoids the potential risk involved in other implant methods.

Recovery & Results

Depending on the treatments used, downtime varies. For example, no downtime is needed after RADIESSE: patients return to their regular routines immediately. Laser treatments may result in slightly pink skin, which soon subsides. We will provide you with guidelines for easing your recovery and healing quickly and fully.

After treatment, our patients typically experience significant improvement, with smoother, more youthful looking hands. The signs of aging are diminished, from reduced wrinkles and spots to less prominent veins and tendons.
