Who is a Candidate for Eyelid Surgery?

Women and men visit Dr. Spence in Orlando for eyelid surgery to attain a variety of improvements. You may benefit from eyelid surgery if:

  • Loose skin, wrinkles, and bags on your lower eyelids make you look tired
  • Excess skin and fat on your upper eyelids detract from your appearance
  • You feel young - but those wrinkles and that sagging skin around and on your eyelids cause you to appear much older

Preparing for Your Procedure

During your consultation, Dr. Spence will evaluate how the passage of time has impacted your eyelids and the surrounding areas. He also will discuss whether complementary procedures, such as a facelift, might achieve a more comprehensive rejuvenation.

You'll receive instructions for your before-surgery care, as well as information about how to speed up your recovery and healing process. Learn more by reading our Eyelid Surgery FAQs.

Eyelid Surgery Procedure

Depending on your skin tone and extent of wrinkles, Dr. Spence may perform either upper lid surgery, lower lid surgery, or both. The upper lid procedure involves excising skin from the natural crease of the eyelid. For the lower lids, he can perform a traditional incision just below the lashes or a transconjunctival incision inside the lower lid. In some cases, he may perform a resurfacing procedure on the lower eyelid, typically either a chemical peel or laser resurfacing.

If the amount of excess skin on your upper eyelid also requires a brow lift, Dr. Spence performs that procedure during the same surgery. This combination provides you with a more alert, refreshed appearance.

Recovery & Results

Dr. Spence usually recommends that patients limit their activities for the first 2 days following the procedure. Most patients can go out in public within a week, returning to their regular routine in about 2 weeks. Complete recovery typically takes about 10 to 12 days.

After their blepharoplasty, Dr. Spence's eyelid surgery patients often say that they don't just look more rested and young – they feel that way too!
