The F.A.C.E. of a Facelift

We’ve all seen photos of celebrities with unfortunate plastic surgery results. Luckily, if you do your research and ask the right questions, you will not have to worry about tabloid-worthy results. The first step is to choose one of the few board-certified plastic surgeons in Orlando. Then, be sure to have a candid conversation with your surgeon about your needs and expectations. Here’s what I like to discuss with patients at their first consultations.

Fullness: One of the main concerns of facelift patients is the loss of facial fullness as we age. Just like the rest of our bodies, fat and tissue in the face can fall and become displaced, creating a hollow or “deflated” appearance. Restoring facial fullness is often one of the main objectives of a facelift, and is easily done by repositioning fat and tissue and tightening the overlapping skin. A good surgeon can re-create the fullness of youth without making you look over-inflated.

Age-appropriateness: The rates at which we age vary wildly depending on things like genetics, ethnicity, sun exposure, and overall health. Some individuals may be ready for a facelift at 40, while others can afford to put it off until much later. Your doctor can help you decide when the time is right and address your expectations. Surgery will not make you look like you did at 20, but we can help you look like the best version of your current self.

Customization: A good surgeon will work with you to meet your goals. Some patients can’t stand the lines around their mouths, while others may focus on their chins or necks. There is no blanket approach to cosmetic surgery, and everybody’s concerns are different. At your consultation, we’ll discuss a customized plan that addresses your specific needs to ensure you get exactly what you want.

Experienced surgeon: Your body and health are your most valuable possessions. Don’t risk either one with a surgeon who may not be knowledgeable enough. Do your research—make sure he or she is board-certified and has ample experience with your chosen procedure. Don’t be afraid to ask questions—a surgeon should be glad to address any of your concerns. Most importantly, trust your instincts.
