Three Signs You Might Need a Breast Reduction

Woman with Bra On After a Breast ReductionMost people probably think of a plastic surgeon in conjunction with breast augmentation. You may not know that breast reduction is another procedure offered by surgeons, in order to improve the quality of life of women with larger breasts.

If you’re on the fence about whether to have breast reduction, watch for these three signs.

Constant Backache: Watch for pain between your shoulders, in your neck, and your lower back.  Your breasts are heavy, full of fatty tissue and milk ducts. Whether you wear a supportive bra or not, large breasts can make your back ache.

Groovy Shoulders: Have you noticed, when you get undressed, that you have a ridge in your shoulder? It’s not usually noticeable with a top on, but if you’re trying to go strapless, it’s very obvious. You have permanent groves where your bra strap sits all day, every day. Even with correctly sized bras, the weight of your breasts will pull the straps down, digging into your shoulders to leave marks.

Rashes Underneath: Having a rash under your breast is not an uncommon problem. It’s probably brown or red; while it looks awful, it’s actually harmless.  This type of rash is usually referred to as intertrigo or candida intertrigo. It happens in areas where skin rubs together without much air flow.

I have been a patient of Dr. Spence twice now. I didn't hesitate to contact him when I was ready to move forward with my adominoplasty. It has been a long and, at times, rough recovery but Dr. Spence and his staff have been right by my side every step of the way.
